In our last post, we discussed 7 strategies for engaging in X Communities. We know why we must engage, and where we should engage.
Now you open an X Community, see a great post, and… you freeze.
You don’t know what to say beyond “Great post!” or “Agree!”. This is the “Blank Page” pain.
The X algorithm rewards conversation, but meaningless comments (“Great post!”) add no value and do nothing to build your authority.
To help you break this barrier, here are 7 smart comment formulas you can use immediately.
1. The “Summarize + Question” Formula
This is the fastest way to “win”. It shows you actually read and thought about the post.
- Structure: “Amazing thread. My 3 takeaways are (A), (B), and (C). I’m especially curious about (B): What are your thoughts on applying this to [Case Y]?”
- When to use: On long threads or in-depth analysis posts.
2. The “Personal Experience” Formula (E-E-A-T)
Sharing your real-world experience is the most powerful way to build authority.
- Structure: “This is so true. I faced [Problem X] last month. Here’s how I solved it: (share 1-2 brief steps). Thanks for sharing.”
- When to use: When someone shares a problem or solution you’ve personally experienced.
3. The “Value-Add” Formula
Turn your comment into a supplemental resource.
- Structure: “Great analysis. To add to your point: another great tool/resource/article on this is [Name/Link]. It helped me [benefit].”
- When to use: When you know a relevant resource the author didn’t mention.
4. The “Respectful Disagreement” Formula
Don’t be afraid to disagree, as long as you are polite. (Healthy) debates attract the most attention.
- Structure: “I see your point on [Aspect X]. However, I have a slightly different perspective. In my field, I’ve found that [Viewpoint Y]… What are your thoughts?”
- When to use: When you have a different viewpoint and want to start a deeper discussion.
5. The “Shout-Out” Formula
Connect experts, and you become the center of the network.
- Structure: “Fantastic post. It reminds me of the great work [@AnotherExpert] is doing in the [Z] space. I feel like you two should connect.”
- When to use: When a post is highly relevant to another person’s work you know.
6. The “How-To” Question Formula
Show curiosity and a desire to apply the knowledge.
- Structure: “Thanks for sharing this. Do you have any tips on applying [Step 2] specifically for [Niche Y]? I’m trying to implement this.”
- When to use: When a post is theoretical, and you need practical advice.
7. The “Helper Seeker” Formula
This is the “reverse” tactic: you start the conversation by asking for help in a Community.
- Structure: “Hey everyone, I’m struggling with this exact problem. I’ve tried (A) and (B) with no luck. Any suggestions?”
- When to use: When you genuinely need help (this is what Communities are for!).
The “Manual” Pain (Again)
You now have 7 formulas. But here’s the catch: You can’t “copy-paste” them. You have to adapt them. You still have to read the context, think about your personal experience, find a value-add link, and type it out…
It’s better than “Great post!”, but it still takes time and mental energy.
How can you apply these 7 formulas quickly? How can you make sure they still sound like you and maintain your personal voice?
We’ll leave that question hanging… for now, let’s go customer hunting.
